Kansas City 9 at San Diego 20

OK, so I missed most of the first half b/c of Animation Domination on FOX.

Was the kicker dehydrated after a play?

But at one point I flipped over to check out the action and got the first field goal kick by the Chiefs, yeah the one that bounced in, off the upright. And did I see something wrong, or did the Chiefs kicker go to the sideline and get a drink between the FG and the kick off? I might be wrong, but if that is what happened… Well, I don’t know what.
It’s not like he is in the game for a whole series, a FG or extra point then a kick off, then he has all kinds of time to get a drink. Like I said I could be wrong but if that is what actually happened, it struck me as odd.

Ladainian Tomlinson
LT, no surprise here, as he tore up the field with 199 yards on 25 carries, making that his 8th straight 100 plus rushing yard game. He tacked 2 more TD’s on to his single season record now at 31, (28 rushing & 3 receiving). He also broke a single season scoring record at 186 points. LT marched one TD for 85 yards, the longest of his career. He is at 8987 total yards rushing in his 6th year. So it is pretty safe to say that by the end of this season he should be half way to Emmit Smith’s (Dallas 1990 – 2002 and Arizona 2003 – 2004) All Time Rushing Record of 18,355 yards.
LT is not just a running back either, he can and will pass the ball. In his career he has thrown the ball 10 times with 7 completions, 6 TD’s and no INT’s, giving him a 152.1 passer rating. The longest pass of his passing career, completed for 38 yards.

San Diego 12 - 2
There is not much doubt that San Diego is on track. With two more wins they seal home field advantage throughout the playoffs. If they lose, they can still gain home field advantage with some help.

Kansas City 7 - 7
They are still in the playoff hunt mathematically, but it’s an outside chance. With 4 teams, one from each division, taking a playoff spot. At this point, four teams have a better record and three other teams are also at 7 – 7, fighting for two remaining openings.

I learned something.
I did learn of a rule this weekend that I was not aware of. The out of bounds rule; when a player carries the ball out of bounds with more than 5 minutes left in the half, the clock only stops until the ball is spotted. If a player carries the ball out of bounds and there are less than 5 minutes left in the half, the clock stops until the ball is snapped.

Fined $35,000 for Spitting
And I am not going to mention any names because I don't want to give him any more publicity that he already has. But if the officials had seen it, he would have been ejected from the game. I say if they know enough to fine him, a suspension is not out of line. Let him sit out a game or two, what is $35,000 to him? This guy might be a play maker, but his antics seem to play just as much of a role. If Dallas is a rose, he is the thorn. He is a fine example of what the NFL does not want in the league. Other guys have made bad decisions and apologized, and many players will say, “ I do (or did) not expect that from him, he is a stand up guy, that is so out of character” I am afraid, this is exactly what we expect from him. In fact it would surprise me, if anyone called him a stand up guy.

I didnt get a chance to watch much football this weekend so I can't give alot of comments about the games. I am however forced to watch every Dallas game that is on T.V. so I can comment on that one. After being forced to watch every Dallas game I am starting to become a fan of the guy no one wants to mention, He brings a kind of WWF thing to the Nfl haha. I know I am older than most of you who will comment but does anyone remember the good ole days of football, That spitting in a face was mild compared to the old guys stunts. Dick Butkis used to walk by running backs laying on the ground and smash there hands with his steel cleats, Jack Lambert would not only spit in faces but diving into a pile looking for a fumble he would bite, scratch and do anything to get that ball. These are just a few examples of touch nose football, Is the Nfl getting soft? These guys make millions a year to entertain us, I myself would like it to get back to the older days and stop worrying about having a special referee to stand and watch the quarterback to make sure no one touches him after throwing the ball come on its getting out of hand. Arms breaking and noses getting busted, Now thats my kind of Entertainment.

Interesting points. I will agree that you are older. But I think spitting in faces has taken on a biological situation that wasn't relevant back then. And your right about the old league, I have watched enought NFL films to know that back in the day of the Purple People Eaters, The Steel Curtain, and The Intimidating Raiders. The Raiders that would gladly accept a penalty to put a little fear into an opponent. Honestly for the most part I think those days are long gone. And to a point it has got soft, you won't see them with leather helmets or without a facemask either. But I bet there are a few old timers out there that would like to see that come back.

Also the point of a special referee to watch a QB, I think you can trace that back to the game where a Green Bay defender picked up Jim McMahon and slammed him down on his right shoulder, clearly after the play was over. Actions like that are why these rules have come about. Also I believe back in the 80's, maybe evene arly 90's, when they had contracts on players. You would be paid so much to hurt some one. That is getting away from the game.

That Dallas player who I still will not mention, gets more press for his antics than for his playing, his numbers or his importance to the team.

And speaking of the old days (at least ours) What about guys like Walter Payton and what he brought to the game? Something amazing, that most of us will remember forever. Well, we might be lucky enough to see it twice, take a look at LT in San Diego.

I think that comparing the NFL of today with the NFL back then is ludicrous. Sure you had Butkis stepping on hands and people biting and pinching in piles (which still probably happens today), but you also had a different society, and less media coverage of games. I mean lets face it, the game has changed over the years. Some for the good and some for the bad. Fortunatly for us we live in a society where we are still allowed to voice our opinions about what we think about the rules. Personally, I think that spitting in another mans face, whether be in competition or not, is obserd. Do you really think that anybody was intimidated by whats his name spitting in somebodys face. I think that if a wide receiver would have spit in somebodys face 35 years ago, he would have been punished in a very different way, ie. broken fingers, or nose.
As far as protecting the quarterback goes, I feel that the officials have taken it too far. I understand that the league wants to protect the "star players", but when it effects the rest of the game in a negative way that's taking it too far. For God's sake this is still the NFL right.

Hey nobody answered... Did the kicker go get a drink between the field goal and kick off?
